It’s a Flying Saucer!

We just got this cool new sock yarn in from Schoppel Wolle. It’s called a Flying Saucer.

Two strands of yarn are dyed together and then wound on a spool. You can knit both of your socks at the same time, and they’ll come out looking pretty close to identical. It’s a lot of fun to knit. Stop in and check it out!

Open Spinning

This summer, we will be having open spinning on the first and third Monday of the month, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Come over and spin with Annie and friends. This is open to all spinners, from those with a little experience to those with a lot. There is no signup or fee for this event.

Annie has been spinning for twenty years. She can help you with all of your spinning challenges. We are so lucky to have her at the shop.

Ready for a new knit-along?

Have you heard about the February Lady sweater? It’s one of the most popular patterns out there right now. Designed by Pamela Wynne, it is a take-off of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s original sweater designs. It is an easy sweater to fit. Its simplicity allows for your own personal design changes, and you can knit it in just about any worsted weight yarn.

Anne knit this one in Malabrigio Tonos. Amanda is busy knitting it in Hemp for Knitting. We are setting aside a 3 hour block of time in the shop each Monday, March 23 through May 3rd, for working on it together. So come when it works for you, or join us here or on our Ravelry group with questions and comments.

The Closing Ceremonies are over, and that means it’s time to wrap up our Knitting Olympic Challenge. Twenty Olympians completed the challenge. Great job, everybody. Our winners, as decided by a drawing:

2010 Knitting Olympic Challenge

If you have ever dreamed of being an Olympian, the 2010 Knitting Olympic Challenge is your chance to make your dreams come true.

Rules:

Cast on your project during or after the Opening Ceremonies, on February 12. You may swatch before that, if you need to.
Complete your project by the end of the Closing Ceremonies, on February 28. This includes weaving in ends. You can block your project after the competition is over.
The project you choose must be a challenge for you to complete. It can be a project with a technique you’ve never done before (cables, entrelac) or a larger project that requires a lot of knitting (sweater, afghan). This is your chance to do more than you thought you could do.
Bring your completed project into the store by 5 pm on March 3 to be eligible for prizes. We will take a picture of your project to be posted on our website.

All completed projects will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
Gold—$50 gift certificate
Silver—$30 gift certificate
Bronze—$15 gift certificate

Purchase your project materials at Prairie Yarns before February 14 and receive a 15% discount on yarn. The discount applies only to your Olympics project. Good luck, have fun, and go for the gold!
